Emborcação hydroelectric power plant with 1,192 MW of installed capacity will undergo an important revitalization process.

In January 2018 Omexom in Belo Horizonte and Cemig signed a contract for the updating of the Emborcação HPP located on the River Paranaiba near to the city of Araguari in the state of Minas Gerais. The plant is Cemig’s largest, with 1,192 MW of installed capacity. The scope consists on the replacement of all the Electrical AC Station Service power panels and motor control centres; equipment will also be supplied for key plant systems such as spillway, step-up transformer cooling systems, control of operation of the generators in the synchronous compensator mode, and updating of the unit protection systems.

According to the engineering department of Omexom the main scope of the contract will require the provision of more than 90 columns of electrical panels. The Contract requires the supply of the equipment for all four generating units to be complete within fourteen months. Carrying out the works with the plant in operation, and making the transition from old to new systems with the least possible impact on energy production, will be the great challenge of this project in which Omexom in Belo Horizonte has all the experience of its experts.
