Omexom Taylor Woodrow (OTW) joint venture named as an Enterprise Delivery Partner on National Grid’s Great Grid Partnership.

Omexom Taylor Woodrow joint venture, trading as OTW, has been successful in being awarded a position as an Enterprise Delivery Partner to deliver National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade. Part of the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework, this major electricity transmission upgrade, required to move more clean energy across the country to help the UK achieve its net zero ambitions, is the largest overhaul of electricity grid in generations.

OTW joins six other supply chains partners onto the Great Grid Partnership (GGP) which will initially provide nine major onshore electricity transmission upgrades in England and Wales by 2030, which forms part of a £9bn supply chain framework that will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030. It will help the UK reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and make sure the electricity network is fit for the future, carrying more clean, secure energy from where it is generated to where it is needed.

It is predicted that the UK demand for electricity will increase by 50% by 2035 and double by 2050. In the short term, this means the energy sector must deliver 5 times the amount of electricity transmission infrastructure in the next 6 years than has been built in the past 30 years. This is a significant challenge for the energy sector and the coming together of key supply chains partners onto the Great Grid Partnership is a great answer to these unprecedented electricity transmission upgrade requirements.
